We survived Christmas

We did it. We survived our first Christmas with Kai. We had a good four days of visiting with family, which can be a lot for us grown ups never mind a little man. Kai did well. He got a bit overstimulated but it all turned out in the end.
We would like to say a big thanks to all of you who spoiled our little fella. He did very well this year. we are both looking forward to next year because Kai will be more involved.
Here is a run down of our holidays schedule-
Dec 23rd @ Grandmaman and Granddad's
Dec 24th @ Pat and Terry's (Simon's aunt and uncle)
Dec 25th @ Nan and Grandpa's
Dec 26 @ Helen and Matt's (Simon's cousins)

4 weeks old and lots of fun

Kai is officially 4 weeks old today. I cannot believe how fast the time has gone. It seems like just yesterday he was
coming home with us. I have trouble remembering life without him. Simon and I are both adapting better to less sleep now and are champs with the middle of the night diaper change.
Kai is now 11 lbs 4 1/2 oz. Needless to say some very cute outfits have been packed away, never worn. He is growing like a weed.
Next big step for the little man is Christmas. We are going to my parents on the 23rd and to Simon's on Christmas day in the afternoon. It will be interesting to see how Kai copes with all the new stimulation. He is more aware of what is going on now and does not sleep through everything anymore.
Merry Christmas to all and happy holidays.

2 weeks old and already a busy boy

We have survived our second week with the little man and it has been a busy one. Simon went back to work this week so Kai and I have been on our own. We have slowly developed an understanding. He needs lots of attention and I need to have a shower daily.

Things are better now that we have switched Kai's formula. (He did not tolerate the original formula. It was the cheaper brand.)

We had Kai weighed on Friday and he was 9 lbs 14 and 1/4 oz. He is growing like a weed.

On Sunday we celebrated St Nicolas Day with Opa and his aunties and uncle. It was a lot of fun even if the little man got a bit over stimulated. Nothing a mommy could not fix. Simon was great as the St Nick elf, handing out the gifts.

Every day is a new adventure with Kai. He is discovering his world and more importantly what he likes and dislikes. It is slowly getting easier to figure him out. I know that we will be okay because Kai has his Uncle Evan looking out for him.

One week old already

We have survived our first week with the little man. It has been an amazing experience. Kai is keeping us on our toes as we try and figure out what his needs are. We have been lucky so far as he is still a mellow type guy. I have a feeling that will all change soon enough.

The little man

He is finally here. Kai Thomas Morris came into the world on November 23, 2007 at 12:28 pm following quite the ordeal. I had 3 rounds of induction with cervidil (not a fun time), the "drip" and after 11 hours, a c-section involving forceps (a process that started on November 20, 2007 and went on for what seemed like forever). I can thankfully say that both of us are doing great. Simon was amazing throughout the whole process and I would not have been able to do it without him.
Fun Facts about Kai
- he weighed 9 lbs 10 oz
- head circumference is 38 cm
- length is 54.5 cm
- he is great eater
- he smiles all the time in his sleep
- he sounds like a kitten when he cries
- he is a mellow fella so far

41 weeks and 3 days

I am now 41 weeks and 3 days and this little man does not want to come. We are still waiting. Not so patiently. I have been induced twice now (round one had no effect at all). We are both hoping that this round will be effective. I am still having problems with swelling and am very tired. The baby is doing great though. He is very active and is quite content. I am pleased to say that he is way more active in the morning than at night. Simon is hoping that this pattern will stay. Hopefully he will come soon.

No baby yet

Well, we are officially past our due date and this baby in my belly does not want to come out. He is taking his time getting ready (just like his dad). It looks like I will be waiting around for two Morris men in the future. For those who don't know, I am almost always early for things where as Simon likes to start getting ready about five minutes before we have to leave. Somehow I think it will be me adjusting to their schedule.

Simon and I just wanted to let all of those who live outside of Alberta know that due to the late arrival of Kai, Christmas cards will probably be late arriving. We want to include photos with our Christmas wishes. Please be patient because they will be coming (especially those to Europe and South Africa).

38 weeks and the swelling continues

The count down is on. I am currently 38 weeks and swelling up like a balloon. Everyone keeps telling me that my hands and feet will return to their normal shape, but I have my doubts. During my morning chats with the baby in the belly I have expressed my desire for him to come out now. We are all ready for him. Simon would like Kai to make his appearance on a weekend so that he can have a whole week off work. I am not sure, but I think Simon figures there will be some prime sleeping in during that week. As far as the doctor is concerned, Kai is doing well and will come whenever he is ready. There is no indication as to when, so it could be any day now to any week now. We are trying to be patient.

Welcome to Kai's World

Simon and I have started this blog to allow all those we know and love to meet our little man. (And yes, we know he is not here yet but we are hoping it will be soon) For all of those who live far away it will be an easy way to keep tabs on how we are all doing. We promise to try and update this blog with new information and pictures on a regular basis. Please feel free to check out photos of the little man with the link titled "Photos of Kai".

We thank you all for your support during this pregnancy and hope that you will all enjoy this blog.
